The 3rd Annual Columbia County Benefit Breakfast raised $11,135 in support of
CASA’s work in the region!
The event was sponsored by CareOregon and approximately 50 CASA supporters raised $3,250 in funds for the Columbia County program. This $3,250 was instantly doubled by a generous matching grant from NW Natural.
The hour-long breakfast included speakers focusing on the dire need for more CASAs in the region. Featured guests and presenters included: Senator Betsy Johnson, Commissioners Earl Fisher and Henry Heimuller, Diana Shera Taylor, Defense Attorney and retired Municipal Court Judge in Columbia County, and CASA volunteer Jennifer Herbst. CASA’s Executive Director, Betsy Stark Miller, discussed the growth in children served in the county. Columbia River Receptions & Events at Meriwether Place hosted the breakfast and Brown Butter Bakery and Starbucks catered the meal and coffee.
In Diana Shera Taylor’s words: “…foster placements can change, as do DHS caseworkers, schools, and counselors… children learn that they cannot trust the adults around them to always be there for them. CASA volunteers remain with the children throughout the life of their cases, providing the only constant and consistent contact, which the children know they can rely upon. CASAs are necessary for providing valuable input that helps keep the children on a path to safe and stable homes.”
